The
RAJKOT ENGINEERING ASSOCIATION (REA) is an organization
of the various Engineering Industries situated in Rajkot.
It was founded in the Pre-independence Era in 1943 under
the name and style of Rajkot Manufacturers' Association
by Shri Umakantbhai Pandit and Twelve others. Rajkot Manufacturers'
Association and Rajkot Industrial Organization (which was
constituted later to take care of the interests of manufacturers
other than Foundries) were merged in the year 1963 and renamed
as Rajkot Engineering Association with a membership of about
100 Units. It is incorporated under Bombay Non-Trading Corporation
Act, 1959 and Association is considerable one of the largest
Engineering Associations in Gujarat. Now Twenty Six years
later the number of membership has gone around 900 units,
99% of which are Small Scale Industries. The REA has influenced
and contributed immensely to the growth of the Indian and
Foreign Trade of Engineering Products as well as to its
economic development, Besides Rajkot Municipal Corporation
areas, the jurisdiction for the purpose of enrolling any
person engaged in Engineering Industries as Subsequently
the whole of Saurashtra upto Viramgam is covered for enrolling
as associate member The basic aim of the REA is to help
its members for the promotion and development of their manufacturing
activities. The association provides very useful service
of distribution of Coke on No Profit No Loss basis to the
foundry units. Its annual turnover is around Rs. 15 Crores.
The
REA has been recognised as an accredited representative body
of Small Scale Industries of Rajkot. This Association has
established a good rapport with various authorities of State
and Central Government and it has representation of various
advisory committees and technical institutions. The Association
is also affiliated to various apex organizations like Confederation
of Indian Industry, Federation of Associations of Smafi Industries
of India, Gujarat Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Indian
Diesel Engine Manufacturers Associations, Indian Coal Merchants
Association, Gujarat International Trade Promotion Council
Etc. REA has privileged and honour to represent in Bureau
of Indian Standard Technical Committee of various mechanical
engineering department such as, I. C. Engines, Centrifugal
Pumps which is the main industry of Rajkot. It has representation
on various State Corporations also.
Due
to various manufacturing activities and its respective markets,
members often encounter different kinds of problems. REA serves
to co-ordinate its members' activities so that they can exchange
information and co-operate in overcoming business difficulties
efficiently. The REA has appointed number of Sub-Committees
to handle its operations separately. REA organizes short duration
training programmes useful to the SIS units. Well trained
and experts specialists are invited by the REA to give lectures
on various subjects to solve the problems of the engineering
industries. These, activities have been a great help to the
members of REA.
REA's
Bulletin is monthly Publication for its members. It was first
published in printed form in June, 1977 and has ever since
provided detailed statistics and reliable information on foreign
and domestic industries, development in technical know-how.

REA
is quite alert at all the times for the issues related to
the small scale industry of this region by way of its representations
upto favorable decisions from the government Some of the specific
matters achieved during the beginning of 199899 in case of
SIS Sector are enhancement of central excise exemption limit
from Rs. 30 Lac to Rs. 50 Lac, exemption from filing of yearly
declaration upto Rs. 40 Lac turn over from Central Government
as well as reduction of sales tax in diesel engine & parts
from 6% to 4%, Hydraulic jack for tractor trailer from 12%
to 4%, watch cases (which are being manufactured in SIS Sector
only in Rajkot) and hand operated spray pumps from 12% to
0% from State Government.
Besides,
rendering useful services, the REA is also extending helping
hand to the needy industries and people who are affected by
the natural calamity like flood, cyclone and draughts. For
this a Charitable Trust is also formed to help the deserving
people without any distinction.
REA
is having constant awareness of the problems SIS Units, their
promotion, development and to increase the co-operation and
goodwill amongst the members of the Association. TO promote
an ecologically balanced better environment against the existing
air and sound pollution, REA has also taken up the work of
development of Grader, and raising of tree groovier in common
plot of industrial areas.
On
the occasion of publication of this directory, I would like
to extend my sincere thanks to honorable Chief Minister of
Gujarat Shri Keshubhai Patel, Honorable Finance Minister Shri
Vajubhai Vala and Honorable Industry Minister Shri Sureshbhai
Mehta as well as our Honorable Member of Parliament Dr. Shri
Vallabhbhai Kathifia for conveying their messages of good
wishes and also extending their best co-operation in taking
up the issues of small scale industry at the state and central
level for favorable resolutions. We appreciate the co-operation
and assistance being received from time to time from the relevant
Government agencies to achieve the goal.
